    Some Changes

    line
    - reported by
    shiva on 11/25/00 @ 01:12 EST

Because of FTP problems, I was locked out of my own site for a while, but it has been fixed, so it's catch up day for me, as I am expecting some more content to be ready this weekend.

Also, I finally changed all the sub banners for the WPCmame pages, as I am trying to get a more polished look. Besides, the old banner looked aweful. Not to sure on the links yet, so if you notice any, let me know.

Still more to come as well, as it's time to start working on the image packs and the various archives.

    Fun, fun, fun.

    JunkYard Manual

    shiva on 11/25/00 @ 01:08 EST

The Manual Archive increases by one, as Junkyard has been added. This is the operator manual, or the "short version", but still useful to have. You will need a copy of Adobe Acrobat to view the manual.

    More Sound Roms

    line
    - reported by
    shiva on 11/25/00 @ 01:03 EST

Today is catch up day, with our ftp problems fixed, so I uploaded all the sound ROMS I have in one nice big file. Thanks to everyone, even Joxer, for sending me ROMS and stuff. Here's some of the new roms added:

  • Addams Family
  • No Good Gofers
  • Indiana Jones
  • Mousin' Around
  • Road Show
  • Safe Cracker
  • Terminator 2
  • These are SOUND ROMS ONLY. They do not need to be used in WPCmame. They are "spare" and only for dev members to include in the "master" versions, or for people who need the separate sound roms. These ROMS are untested, and a couple may be incomplete. We add and update missing portions as we receive them. New and updated versions are in BOLD on the date. We always need more sound ROMS, so if you have a rom that's not on this list, please send them by email to shiva@gamesurge.com

You can find the sound ROMS in our ROM Archive page.

Our Pinball Manuals Archive is now 2 manuals richer, as with thanks to Dave, we now have the Star Trek: The Next Generation COMPLETE version, and 16-9473 WPC DMD Schematics up, and ready for downloading.

The STTNG manual weighs in at 137 pages, and 5.3 Megs, but is complete. The WPC DMD Schematics covers games from T2 to TZ.

    Technical Section Back Up

    - reported by
    shiva on 11/19/00 @ 01:50 EST

According to our poll, people have been wanting us to improve our Technical section, so after some begging, I finally got enough articles to open the section back up. Not only is the PIC article written by the author of WPCmame back up, but also additional articles has been added, with a thanks to Jonathan Deitch. These new articles include:

  • A Practical Guide to Fixing Pinball Flippers
  • Pinball Repair FAQ
  • Pinball Cleaning Tips
  • There's 5 articles to start, but quite a few are very extensive, and all are filled with excellant information and tips on the care and maintenance of pinball machines. Well worth the read.

shivaSite is looking for writers and new articles for our technical section. If you wish to submit a article for the technical pages, you can contact the webmaster at .

    shiva on 11/18/00 @ 03:30 EST

Though I am still in the process of building it, enough material is now there to launch The Addams Family Page at PinGuide.

This new section contains all the links within the site for the Addams Family, and also includes several new pages, such as a greatly expanded Gallery Page, as well as a Tips and Tricks Page, and some new ROMS as well.

It was quite a project, but it's up and ready for viewing now, so enjoy the new page.

    WPCmame v5 RELEASED

    line
    - reported by
    shiva on 11/17/00 @ 01:49 EST

shivaSite is proud to announce that both WPCmame and WPCmame 32 v5 has been released, and ready for downloading. Some major new features highlight this release, as well as some bug fixes. Here's what's new:

    - New Simulator for Creature From the Black Lagoon
[Marton Larrosa] (Note: This also includes a new simulator feature, where the keys to control the simulator are included right on the screen.)

    - New Simulator for World Cup Soccer '94
    [WPCMAME Author]

    - New Simulator for Star Trek Next Generation
    [Steve Ellenoff]

    - New Simulator for Party Zone
    [Marton Larrosa]

    - New Custom Lamp Matrix for Terminator 2
    [Steve Ellenoff]

    - Solenoid numbering for flipper solenoids updated.
They now match the test menu numbers.
    [WPCMAME Author]

    - Corrected a bug in the spinner simulation.
    [WPCMAME Author]

    - PreDCS Game Volume Support (not working)
    [WPCMAME Author]

    - Minor Fix to Capturing Simulator Keypresses
    [WPCMAME Author]

    - Coin Door Keys remapped to match layout of real pinball machines
    [Steve Ellenoff]

Thanks goes to Marton for creating a WPCMAME only sourcefile zip...
No longer do you need to have mame37b8 source code to compile, simply use the zip with the _full at the end..

Therefore, you'll see 2 source code files for wpcmame dos, the new source code from the previous version, and the "full" version which can be used to create a fresh build without needing to download the mame37b8 source code first...

You can get the 4 new versions by looking upwards on this page. Awesome release guys. Now excuse me, I got to go kick some Borg butt. :D

    Wanted: News Posters

    line
    - reported by
    shiva on 11/16/00 @ 23:20 EST

Looking at the poll, there isn't a lot of votes yet, but it's running neck and neck on manuals, a better tech section, and also, people want a pinball news website.

I mentioned this before. I would love a news section just for pinball and the community, but I have one small problem... I live in the sticks of western Canada.

Not only do I have to travel 2 hours just to play the recent machines, but I have no access to decent news sources, nor do I have "eyes and ears" like say Chicago Pinball. So I'm decided that the only way shivaSite was gonna get decent news was to find someone willing to write it, and help in reporting on the latest happenings.

In a sense, I'm looking for "staff" members, just like GameSurge. This is a non-money making site, so there's no pay or anything, other than getting advanced previews and stuff, but it's definately a important part missing from the community. Here's what is needed:

  • Good spelling, or at least better than mine. :(
  • Basic HTML skills. Very basic actually, all you really need to know are link tags, though some links are automatic with key words.
  • Know your pinball stuff
  • That's it. The entire news section is built into CGI, so all you do is call up the news scripter with your browser, and you can actually post news through the browser. Everything is pretty much handled from there. So easy, I can use it. :)

If you are interested, just drop me a email at .

  • The Pinball 2000 Pages debut at PinGuide

    line
    - reported by
    shiva on 11/15/00 @ 01:57 EST

In a case of not having enough work to do as it is, and hoping to die from over work, (I'm married, so you guys know what I mean) I have launched a brand new section here at shivaSite, PinGuide.

PinGuide is a special section just for the individual pinball games, containing not only the links within the site, but also as much information as I can collect on that game, all in one handy page.

3 new sections of PinGuide are now open, all for the Pinball 2000 series.

The Pinball 2000 page contains just the flyers for the series, and also one image... the actual prototype of the P2K series. :)

The Revenge From Mars page contains not only all the links to existing gallery pages and rulesheets, but also technical information, quotes from the game, and bug reports as well.

And finally, The Star Wars Episode One page lists the galleries, reviews, rulesheets, and also contains .wav files from the game itself.

This is a huge work-in-progress, and I'm not sure everything works yet, but it's close. If you wish to contribute to the Pinguide, either for these games, or for other ones, or to let me know about bugs, or missing links, just email me at .

    shiva on 11/13/00 @ 01:58 EST

After a lot of work, and quite a few swear words, I'm pleased (or is that relieved) to announce that we now have a brand new section here at shivaSite/wpcmame: Our Pinball Gallery Pages.

Not only are our WPCmame Image Archives listed in there, but also, we will be supporting individual pinball games. Three game gallery sections make their debut, with more on it's way. Our newest game gallery sections are:

  • The Addams Family
  • Champion Pub
  • Revenge From Mars
  • Also, you may have noticed a new style with the 3 games galleries, as I have been working on getting things a little bit more polished, and maybe, I went a little overboard. More Galleries are on their way as well, as I am preparing Images to use in other pages and sections, including a reviews section.

    Woops!

    - reported by
    shiva on 11/09/00 @ 03:16 EST

    bad shiva, made a mistake...

The main WPCmame page had a formatting problem, because of bad code in one of the SSI's when I updated the site, and I only just noticed it today. Sigh, well, it's fixed now.

Oh, in case you haven't noticed, there's a mailing list now started as well, for shivaSite itself. The mailing list for the forum still works, but that's for WPCmame, while this new list is for all the exciting developments being planned for shivaSite in the future. All you have to do is type your email in the little box to the left hand side, just below the navigation bar, press update, and you are on the list.

I'm pretty stoked. There's some great stuff coming, just a matter of time at the moment. I still have some more CGI to do first, (One of them being a FAQ for WPCmame) and I'm gonna redo some of the graphics as well before I start the onslaught.

    shiva on 11/08/00 @ 02:47 EST

Okay, after watching my computer crash twice tonight, it's pretty clear to me that I am the wrong person to do the ROMS up, so I'm looking for help. I need someone familar with setting up, and cleaning the ROMS for the official site.

Also, I'm asking people to help me track down any corrupt ROMS that may be up. I'm pretty certain Bride of Pinbot is bad, but I'm sure there's a couple of others as well.

I am putting together a new ROMS listing, and gonna update the files, adding a whitewater ROM among others, so if there's any one who's willing to help with correcting the missing/bad ROMS, please let me know by my email or report any problem ROMS in the Bug Reports Forum.

Because I am so totally useless with ROMS, I will appreicate all the help I can get. :)

    Image Pack Update

    line
    - reported by
    shiva on 11/08/00 @ 00:54 EST

A couple of people have asked why I didn't do a image pack for people at 800x600, so after some thought, I did special versions of all 3 image packs for people at 800X600. These are complete, which means they are all updated with the latest images. My apologies to people who have to reload them.

These packs all have the _800 in their file name, to separate them from the other packs. The new packs are set at 325 pixels fixed width, which is just about perfect when WPCmame32 is at full screen. You can get the downloads here

Alas, I always felt that using the PNG format was a mistake by MAME, as PNG files really do not resize properly, and is only a little bit better than GIF, and certainly not as good as JPEG. I tryed to keep the best quality possible, while keeping the file size down, so those of you who have slow modems will certainly appreicate it.

When the next updates to the packs happen (Not for a while BTW), I will start update packs for the 800 res as well.

Also, I created a special page just for the packs. This page lists all the images in the various packs, and additional information like Photoshop settings I used when building these packs, especially for Actions and Automate commands within Photoshop. You can find this new page right here. Everything should be linked up and working by now. I hope....

Also, it's getting quite late, so I will call it a day. I will start getting the roms list updated, with better copies, including the proper set for Whitewater, and I will be updating several pages as well. In the meanwhile, time to get some sleep.

    WPCmame v4 RELEASED!!

    - reported by
    shiva on 11/06/00 @ 22:49 EST

All you silverball addicts can rejoice, as a new version of WPCmame has been released. The DOS version has some major changes included with this new release, and it's quite a list of what's new. Here's the what's new...
    0.37 BETA 8 (November 6, 2000)
    --------------------------------

    - WPCMAME.TXT file updated, including a small facelift.. :)
    [Steve Ellenoff]

    - Removed all mame related info from this textfile. This file's purpose would be about wpcmame, after all!
    [Steve Ellenoff]

    - Added simulation.txt file so you can get keyboard layout and other simulation info there!
    [Steve Ellenoff]

    - Added DCS Sound Speedups!! (Sorry the speed ups don't work in WPC95 games!)
    [Jarek Parchanski]
    [Steve Ellenoff]

    - Fixed WPC95 DCS sound games so that the speedup code doesn't break the game!
    [Steve Ellenoff]

    - Renamed Tic-Tac-Toe, to it's proper Ticket-Tac-Toe!
    [Steve Ellenoff]

    - Fixed incorrect T2 ROM Checksum
    [Steve Ellenoff]

    - New sound support for the following games: TAF(original), Popeye, The Machine: BOP, Party Zone, Whitewater, Safe Cracker, World Cup Soccer
    [Steve Ellenoff]

    - New Simulators for Funhouse and Terminator 2
    [Steve Ellenoff]

    - New Sound Command Mode: Allows you to trigger any sound command, thus you can play any sound in the pinball game. (For some reason, digital voices don't
    work in pre-dcs games yet)
    [Steve Ellenoff]

    - Record Sound output to a Wav file (files go to your wavefile directory.. works similar to screen shots, aka, files are named with a number after them!)
    [Jarek Parchanski]
    [Steve Ellenoff]

This is the biggest version update ever, especially with the simulator support for Funhouse and T2. Needless to say, very few site updates from me for the next little while, I will be "busy" (wink wink, nudge nudge)

    WPCmame Poll

    shiva on 11/04/00 @ 03:21 EST

After a bit of cursing, I managed to get a new poll up and running here at shivaSite, and the first question is for all you users of the WPCmame emulator.

The response has been fantastic since the first release, and now it's time to look to the future, and make improvements. If you scroll downwards, and look at the bottom of the right navagation bar, you will see our brand new poll, asking the question:

What would you like to see in the next version of WPCmame?

The choices are a little tough, as these were gathered from our forum, but we really want to know what to concentrate on for a future release. The choices are:

    More Simulators
    More Games
    Faster Speed
    Better DCS
    More OS Versions

So don't forget to vote, and if you have a subject that would make a great poll question, just email me at .

    WPCmame Site Changes

    - reported by
    shiva on 11/04/00 @ 03:01 EST

Turned out to be a pretty big update, what with changing the left bar, and reloading all the pages as well.

As for the WPCmame site, I changed the left navagation bar for easy access to the WPCmame archives, but also, I made some sweeping changes to the actual pages as well. Most of these are minor, and I doubt many of you will notice them, as they all are CGI based, but it sure makes things a lot easier for me. Most importantly, I have placed in a news scripter for use with WPCmame, so I can update the site with the latest news. I also put the headlines at the top of the page, and also on the right navagation bar as well.

As well, the add ons have been updated to the latest files.

There's also updates to some of the other pages, as I'm preparing for another update to the site, including a W.I.P. page, and also, down the road, a F.A.Q. page.

Following the release of the new image packs, the Playfield Archive is now up to date with all the latest changes.

New additions include playfield shots of Circus Volitare, Funhouse, NBA Fast Break, Scared Stiff, Star Trek:TNG, and The Addams Family.

The archive has now 16 separate shots, up from 6, and hopefully, more will be on it's way. Thanks to all the people who have sent in pictures and links, and I hope that more will be sent in shortly. If you know of a WPCmame supported game playfield shot, please contact me at my email and let me know.

All the image packs for WPCmame32 have been updated with the latest additions. Both the snap.zip (Backglass shots) and the cabinets.zip (Playfields shots) have been reloaded, and now have double the amount of images for both. Also, we have released flyers_1.zip, which is a upgrade to the flyers pack, and contains the latest additions. Just unzip it in the flyers folder.

Thanks to everyone for sending in the links, and keep sending them, we are only missing 5 flyers now. :)
